Conlin Earns CoSIDA Academic Honor

ANDERSON, S.C. – Anderson University volleyball standout Emily Conlin has been named to the 2017 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District™ Team, as announced early Thursday afternoon.

The team, selected by CoSIDA, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.

Conlin earned First-Team All-South Atlantic Conference accolades earlier this week and has helped lead Anderson to a 27-3 overall record, its' first-ever regular-season SAC Championship and a No. 1 seed in this week's conference tournament with a 19-1 league record. The Trojans enter Friday's semifinal round riding a 22-match win streak - the third longest active winning streak in NCAA Division-II Volleyball.

The Glendale, Ariz., native, led the conference and ranks sixth nationally in assists per set and ranked third in the league in total assists and service aces per set, while posting 16 double-doubles on the season and reaching at least 40 assists on 14 occasions, including a season-high 58 assists in September. Her efforts led to garnering AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Specialist of the Week plaudits twice during the season.

In less than two full seasons Conlin already ranks fifth in the AU record books with more than 2,400 career assists. She is majoring in Business/Computer Information Systems and carries a 4.0 GPA.

Joining Conlin were Catie Cronister of Wofford College, Mikayla Shields from South Carolina, Georgia Garrison of Francis Marion and Kylie Moyer from Limestone as the only student-athletes from an NCAA Division I or Division II school in the Palmetto State to earn the academic honor.

The Academic All-District teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and College Division. The College Division includes all NAIA, Canadian, two-year schools, and other affiliations.

First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team ballot, with first-, second- and third-team Academic All-America honorees to be announced in December.

To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 20,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
