ANDERSON, S.C. - Anderson University sophomore midfielder Allie Waters scored her second game-winner in as many matches and the Trojan defense notched its school record seventh shutout, as AU blanked Valdosta State, 1-0, in non-conference women's soccer action Wednesday afternoon at Trojan Stadium.

With the temperatures hovering in the upper 50s and the wind gusting to 35 miles per hour, Anderson (9-6) won its fourth straight match overall and six of its last seven, while Valdosta State (10-4) had its win streak snapped at three.

The two strong defensive teams, with each entering the contest riding a string of three consecutive shutout victories, lived up to the expectations as neither squad recorded a shot for the opening 12:43 of action.

Anderson's Jessica Kleinberg threatened to put the Trojans ahead in the 31st minute, as she broke away from the Blazers' defense and fired a shot just as she passed the oncoming VSU keeper. But by the time she worked clear enough for the attempt, the angle was too sharp and the shot bounced off the near post.

The two teams went to halftime scoreless, but Waters, the reigning South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week, posted her fourth goal in the last three contests by lofting a long shot over the defense and the ball settled in the back of the net for a 1-0 Trojan lead in the 51st minute.

Much of the final 20 minutes of action was played on Anderson's half of the pitch, but the AU defense turned away a flurry of three Valdosta State shots in a three-minute span to preserve the win.

With their seventh shutout of the 2011 campaign, the Trojans set a new school record for clean sheets, eclipsing the previous record of six which was set in 2001 and equaled in 2003.

Anderson goalkeeper Kaitlyn Neipp earned the win with four saves while going the distance. Valdosta State's Olivia Mills absorbed the loss, collecting three saves on the afternoon.
Valdosta State outshot AU, 12-7, and held a 5-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Anderson opens a two-match road swing at Lincoln Memorial on Saturday, with kick-off slated for 2 p.m. in Harrogate, Tenn.
