BREVARD, N.C. - Three goals from a pair of sophomores and a stout defense lifted Anderson to a 3-0 shutout of Brevard in South Atlantic Conference women's soccer play Wednesday afternoon at the BC Soccer Field.

With the win, Anderson (7-6, 4-2 SAC) claimed its fourth consecutive league victory and surpassed last season's overall win total, while recording its second straight win past the Tornados. Brevard fell to 2-11 overall and 0-7 in the conference and have dropped eight straight decisions.

The Trojans fired two shots in the opening four minutes that missed the net, while Brevard answered with a pair of attempts in a span of 36 seconds inside the 11-minute mark.

It was a pair of sophomores that jump-started the AU offense, as Krystal Goss put AU on the scoreboard in the 24th minute with her second goal of the season, as the midfielder fired the ball into the top left corner of the net.

Midfielder Allie Waters boosted the Trojans' lead to 2-0 at the 27:47 mark by lifting a shot that cleared Brevard goalkeeper Brittany Webster, then notched her second score of the contest, and fourth of the season, less than two minutes later when she took a pass from Goss and her shot from 20 yards out settled in the left corner of the net, giving AU a three-goal cushion.

Anderson's defense also rose to the occasion again, posted its fifth shutout of the season, equaling the 2007 AU squad's five clean sheets. The school record for shutouts is six, which was set in 2001 and matched again in 2003.

The Trojans' three goals also equaled their season-high offensive output, as AU posted three scores versus Converse in early September. Anderson outshot the Tornados 14-3, including 7-2 in shots on goal and posted a 7-2 edge in corner kicks.

Sophomore keeper Kaitlyn Neipp earned the win with two saves, while BC's Webster took the loss.

Anderson returns to Trojan Stadium for a two-match homestand on Saturday, with AU playing host to the Tusculum Pioneers in a 1 p.m. contest.
