ANDERSON, S.C. - Behind a goal in each half, the Anderson women's soccer team made its home debut a successful one, downing USC Aiken, 2-1, in non-conference action Monday night at Trojan Stadium.

Anderson (3-2) claimed its third consecutive win, while USC Aiken slipped to 3-2 on the season.

The Trojans netted the first goal of the match at the 24:12 mark when Jessica Kleinberg worked from the top left corner of the box and fired a shot just past the Pacer goalkeeper to put AU up 1-0. Kleinberg has now scored four goals in the last three matches, including a pair of game-winners.

The two teams battled on even terms throughout the contest and AU held onto the narrow lead until the 87th-minute when freshman Kathryn Witcher capitalized from on a corner kick off the foot of Britta Widenhouse to give the Trojans a two-goal edge.

Anderson needed the insurance goal, as the Pacers' Caroline Gillespie scored her third goal of the season just as the horn sounded to cut the Trojans' lead to one.

The Trojans owned a 13-7 shot advantage in the match, including a 2-1 edge in shots on goal. AU finished with a 6-1 advantage in corner kick opportunities.

Anderson opens South Atlantic Conference action on Saturday when Lenoir-Rhyne invades Trojan Stadium for a 1 p.m. kick-off.
