DUE WEST, S.C. - The Anderson women's soccer team closed out its season-opening four- match road trip in stellar fashion by blanking archrival Erskine, 1-0, Saturday night at Huggins Field.

Anderson (2-2) claimed its second consecutive win and evened its record on the season, while Erskine (1-2) suffered its second straight shutout loss. The Trojans earned their third consecutive win past their closest rival, posting their first shutout since blanking SAC-opponent Mars Hill on Oct. 9, 2010.

Anderson junior forward Jessica Kleinberg scored the contest's lone goal at the 11:51 mark off a dazzling assist from junior Carrie Settle. The Columbia, S.C., took a pass with her back to the goal at the top of the box and with a flick of her foot, Settle lofted the ball backwards over her head and the Erskine defender to Kleinberg, creating a one-on-one situation with the keeper. Kleinberg chipped the ball over the charging Erskine goalkeeper to put Anderson up 1-0.

Each team had opportunities in the second half, but neither was able to capitalize by putting the ball in the net. Midway through the frame, Anderson's Krystal Goss had her header off a corner kick ricochet off the crossbar and another shot off her foot deflect off the right post.
AU's defense was up to the challenge on the night, limiting the Fleet to 10 shots, while firing 14 attempts of its own. The Trojans also held a 7-4 edge in corner kicks.

Kleinberg posted her third goal and second game-winning score in as many contests, while notching the seventh game-winning goal of her career.

Anderson's Kaitlyn Neipp recorded seven saves en route to her second win of the year, while Katie Lyle finished with six saves and absorbed the loss.

With the victory, Anderson posted the first point in the Beville Cup competition.
Anderson will get back on the pitch Monday, when the Trojans play host to USC Aiken in their home opener. Kick-off at Trojan Stadium is scheduled for 5 p.m.
