Kolb Leads Crusaders Past Lady Trojans, 5-1

BELMONT, N.C. -- Erin Kolb scored two goals in the first 1:52 of the game and finished the match with her first collegiate hat trick to lead Belmont Abbey (7-7 overall, 7-0 CVAC) to a 5-1 homecoming victory over Anderson (2-8-1, 2-2-1) in a CVAC match Saturday. Kolb started the scoring just 1:04 into the game, as Lindsay Megill found Kolb running free between two defenders. Kolb then beat goalie Meghan Woodall, giving Belmont Abbey a 1-0 lead. Forty-eight seconds after that, Lisa Perrotta made a similar play, hitting Kolb past two defenders, and Kolb did the rest, scoring past Woodall and giving Belmont Abbey a 2-0 lead. The Crusaders extended the lead at the 10:30 mark when Perrotta found Ray Ann Fisher, who scored to make the score 3-0. Anderson scored its lone goal ten minutes later when, after a free kick, Ginny Cates picked up a loose ball in front of goalie Julia Palumbo and scored to make the score, 3-1. Kolb pushed the Abbey lead back to three eight minutes later when she scored an unassisted goal, her third of the game, and Belmont Abbey took a 4-1 lead to the half. Perrotta finished off the scoring four minutes into the second half when she fired a left-footed shot past Woodall, with Fisher assisting. Woodall finished with seven saves, while Palumbo had five for Belmont Abbey. Season Statistics
