Men’s Cross Country Readies for SAC Championships

ANDERSON, S.C. - With the regular season slate completed, the Anderson University men's cross country team turns its attention to the South Atlantic Conference Championships on Saturday.

The 8k event, scheduled to start at 9 a.m., will be hosted by Catawba College in Salisbury, N.C.

In the men's championship, Mars Hill will attempt to continue its dominance of SAC cross country, as the Lions have won a record 17-straight conference titles. MHU enters the championship ranked No. 2 in the Southeast Region by the USTFCCCA.

The Trojans, who finished third at last year's SAC Championship, were led by then senior Parks Edwards, who garnered a 12th-place finish. Ben Boerma nearly captured all-freshman accolades a year ago after finishing 20th. Ned Kennedy crossed the line in 28th, while Westley Wilson captured 31st. Joshua Visi-Clark finished 41st.

The Trojans are coming off a two-week layoff after competing at the Lenoir-Rhyne Invitational, with Wilson pacing the Trojans for the second straight outing by crossing the line in seventh place. Visi-Clark claimed 24th, with sophomore Michael Burch taking the 28th spot. Sophomores Jesse Patrick and Kennedy crossed the line in 30th and 31st, respectively.

As a team, Anderson has finished third on two occasions and seventh once this season, with freshman Mason Hazel pacing the squad on two occasions early in the season and Wilson posting the squad's best times in the last two events.
