Men’s Cross Country Finishes Third at Royals Twilight

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Led by sophomore Ben Boerma's 10th-place finish, the Anderson men's cross country team opened the season by finishing third at the Royals Twilight, hosted by Queens University of Charlotte, Friday night at Freedom Park.

The 5k event featured eight teams, including six from the Southeast Region, with Peach Belt Conference-member UNC Pembroke taking the top spot, ahead of Lincoln Memorial and Anderson. Host Queens placed fourth, with Belmont Abbey and St. Andrews taking fifth and sixth, respectively.

Guilford placed seventh and Averett finished eighth.

Boerma captured 10th in a time of 16:06.06, while newcomer Mason Hazel took 11th in a time of 16:10.8. Graduate student Westley Wilson (16:23.8) placed 16th, with sophomore Jesse Patrick claiming 23rd in a time of 16:40.8. Fellow sophomores Ned Kennedy (17:11.8) and Michael Burch (17:24.9) crossed the line in 32nd and 39th, respectively. Senior Joshua Visi-Clark (17:37.9) rounded out the Trojan effort in 41st.

Anderson returns to action on Saturday at the Furman Cross Country Classic in Greenville, S.C.
