Men’s Cross Country Places 12th at Royals Challenge

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Led by graduate student Westley Wilson's season-best effort, the Anderson men's cross country team placed 12th at the Royals Challenge, hosted by Queens University Saturday morning at McAlpine Creek Park.

"The men ran in some hot conditions today," said Anderson head coach Randy Greer. "We had two guys that were unable to finish. We just have to regroup. I thought Westley [Wilson and Michael [Burch] ran well."

The 8K event saw Tennessee Wesleyan take home the top spot, ahead of second-place UNC Pembroke. South Atlantic Conference-member Mars Hill captured third ahead of Savannah College of Art and Design. UNC Club XC, Shorter, Louisburg, Limestone, Bob Jones, Coker and North Greenville rounded out spots five through 11, with AU finishing ahead of 13th-place Carson-Newman.

Wilson crossed the line with a season-best time of 26:52.2 and finished 36th, while sophomore Michael Burch posted a season-best 28:33.3 and finished 87th. Sophomore Ben Boerma (28:40.2) placed 92nd, with sophomore Jesse Patrick (28:45.0) placing 96th. Senior Joshua Visi-Clark wrapped up the Trojan contingent in 103rd in a time of 28:54.3.

Anderson is slated to get back on the course, Oct. 25 at the Lenoir-Rhyne Invitational.
