Parks Edwards Named to Capital One Academic All-District ® Men’s Track & Field/Cross Country Team

ANDERSON, S.C. - Former Anderson University cross country and track standout Parks Edwards has been named to the 2013-14 Capital One Academic All-District ® Men's Track & Field/Cross Country Team for NCAA Division II, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Thursday afternoon.

The teams, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. Capital One has been the entitlement rights holder to CoSIDA's Academic All-America teams programs since 2011.

Edwards earned Second-Team All-South Atlantic Conference cross country accolades both as a junior and senior and led the Trojans at the 2013 SAC Championships with a season-best time of 26:44.0. The veteran paced the squad at the conference championships, the Royals Challenge, the Winthrop Invitational and the Eye Opener. The Greenville, S.C. native was a member of the SAC Commissioners Honor Roll and was a recipient of the NCAA D-II All-Academic Award.

He was named First-Team All-South Atlantic Conference as a sophomore and was tabbed as a member of the all-freshman team in 2010. Edwards was an NCAA Southeast Regional participant in 2012 and served as a member of the Anderson Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

The Academic All-District ® teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. This is the second year of the expanded Academic All-America® program as CoSIDA moved from recognizing a University Division (Division I) and a College Division (all non- Division I) and has doubled the number of scholar-athletes honored. The expanded teams include NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III participants, while the College Division Academic All-America ® Team combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.

To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 20,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.

The Capital One Division II and III Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures, to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2013-14 DII and DIII Academic All-America® teams program.

First-team Academic All-District ® honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
