ROCK HILL, S.C. - Senior Parks Edwards' 28th-place finish led the Anderson men's cross country team to a sixth-place at the 27th annual Winthrop/Adidas Invitational Saturday morning, hosted at the Winthrop Farm Course.
Following a two-week layoff, the Trojans finished just behind Spartanburg Methodist and just in front of fellow South Atlantic Conference member Lenoir-Rhyne at the 8K distance.
"We were really pleased today," said Anderson head coach Randy Greer. "We ran well as a team."
Edwards' time of 27:33.50 was nearly 26 seconds faster than a year ago in Rock Hill and 33 seconds faster than his time at USC Upstate's Eye Opener two weeks ago. Freshman Ben Boerma (27:47.54) was just behind in 29th, while shaving nearly 46 seconds from his collegiate debut in Spartanburg. Freshman Thomas Garrigan (28:16.81) took nearly a minute off his time at USC Upstate and crossed the line in 34th.
Junior Joshua Visi-Clark (28:30.90) was almost a minute faster
than two weeks ago and captured 40th, while freshman Ned Kennedy
(28:50.57) claimed 47th by improving his time by 22 seconds.
Freshman Westley Wilson 29:04.07 cut nearly 20 seconds from his
time two weeks ago en route to finishing 52nd and Tucker
Huellmantel (29:21.05) took the 57th spot. Freshman Michael Burch
posted a time of 29:53.39 and finished in 60th, with freshman Jesse
Patrick crossing the line in 66th in a time of 30:30.78.
Anderson returns to action on Sept. 28 at the UNC Charlotte
Invitational.
