Men’s Cross Country Places 17th at Southeast Regional

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Senior Parks Edwards led the Anderson men's cross country team to a 17th-place finish at the 2013 NCAA DII Southeast Region Championships, hosted by Queens University of Charlotte on Saturday at McAlpine Creek Park.

"We have had a good season and I am really proud of all the hard work the kids put in," said Anderson head coach Randy Greer. "Now we can take a little break and get ready for track season."

Anderson was competing in familiar territory for the 10K race, as the Trojans ran at McAlpine Creek Park in both the Charlotte Invitational and the Queens Challenge during the regular season.

AU placed in the top-10 in three events and finished 14th at the Queens Challenge during the regular season and was coming off a third-place finish at the SAC Championships two weeks ago.

Edwards (33:39.6), a Second-Team All-Conference honoree, crossed the finish line in 53rd, with freshman Ben Boerma (34:09.9) taking 70th. Another freshman, Thomas Garrigan, earned the 84th slot with a time of 34:42.2. Redshirt junior Westley Wilson (34:51.3) was two spots further back in 86th.

A trio of freshmen rounded out the Trojan effort, as Ned Kennedy 35:32.4),
Jesse Patrick (35:34.1) and Michael Burch (36:51.3) claimed 107th, 109th and 147th, respectively.

With Erskine finishing nine spots behind the Trojans in 26th, AU garnered another point in the Beville Cup standings, and now leads the Flying Fleet, 5-0, in the race for the coveted cup, with eight points needed to clinch possession of the hardware for another year.
