Men’s Cross Country Finishes 14th at Royals Challenge

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Senior Parks Edwards paced the Anderson men's cross country team, as the Trojans finished 14th at the Royals Cross Country Challenge, hosted by Queens University of Charlotte on Friday at McAlpine Creek Park.

Following a two-week layoff and running on the same course for the second consecutive outing, the Trojans finished sixth among South Atlantic Conference teams at the 8K event.

"The guys raced much better as a team on this course than they did the last time we were here," said Anderson head coach Randy Greer. "Several of the guys ran season-best times, which makes me feel good about our chances in postseason."

Edwards crossed the finish line in a season-best time of 26:59.1 and placed 51st, while freshman Ben Boerma (27:42.4) captured 70th. Freshman Westley Wilson shaved more than a minute off his personal-best time to finish 81st in a time of 27:58.5.

Freshmen Thomas Garrigan (28:07.5) and Ned Kennedy (28:08.7) also posted personal-best efforts and finished 89th and 90th, respectively. Another newcomer, Jesse Patrick crossed the finish line in 103rd in a time of 28:26.5. Fellow freshman Michael Burch (29:50.8) rounded out the AU contingent in 147th.

Following a two-week layoff, Anderson will get back on the course at the South Atlantic Conference Championships on Saturday, October 26 in Black Mountain, N.C.
