Men’s Cross Country Captures Ninth at Charlotte Invitational

ANDERSON, S.C. - With freshman Ben Boerma leading the way, the Anderson men's cross country team claimed ninth place at the Charlotte Invitational hosted Saturday morning at McAlpine Park.

"We ran a good solid race," said Anderson head coach Randy Greer. "We can do better and we have some work to do, but we had some good results."

The outing marked the third consecutive season that the Trojans have competed at Charlotte's 8K event and gave AU a preview of the NCAA Southeast Regional, which will be held on the same course in early November.

Boerma crossed the line in 37th in a time of 27:17.3, which was more than 30 seconds better than his previous season-best, while senior Parks Edwards placed 45th with a season-best time of 27:31.3. Junior Joshua Visi-Clark captured 61st in a time of 28:10.0.

Freshman Jesse Patrick (28:20.0) placed 66th by slashing more than 34 seconds off his season-best effort, with freshman Ned Kennedy crossing the line in 69th after a season-best time of 28:29.7. Freshman Thomas Garrigan took 73rd in a time of 28:32.2, with freshman Westley Wilson (28:32.7) rounding out the Trojan contingent in the Gold Division just behind in 74th.

Competing in the Green Division, sophomore Tucker Huellmantel posted a time of 29:05.2 to place 16th with his season-best time and freshman Michael Burch earned 22nd in a time of 29:54.2.

Following a two-week layoff, the Trojans will get back in action at the Royals CC Challenge, hosted by Queens University of Charlotte.
