Trojan Cross Country Heads to Winthrop on Saturday

NDERSON, S.C. - Following a two-week layoff and for the second consecutive season and third time in the last five years, the Anderson University men's and women's cross country teams will compete at the 27th annual Winthrop Invitational Saturday morning on the Winthrop Farm Course in Rock Hill, S.C.

A year ago, Parks Edwards led the Trojan men's team to 19th place in Rock Hill, as AU competed in a field of 27 teams in the 8K event, including 17 NCAA Division I squads. The Trojans finished fifth among D-II schools in the field. Edwards' time of 27:59.17 was good enough for 107th, while sophomore Joshua Visi-Clark (28:05.81) garnered 113th. Then-freshman Tucker Huellmantel (29:29.23) cut nearly two minutes from his collegiate debut opener to cross the line in 153rd.

Last season then-senior Emily Eckroth paced the women's squad to an 18th-place finish, as the Trojans competed in a field of 31 teams, including 21 NCAA Division I squads. The Trojans finished third among D-II schools in the largest field for the 5K event since 2001. Sydney Hazel (20:51.26) and crossed the line in 133rd, while Hannah Robles (20:51.50) claimed 134th. Madison Guest (21:10.15) crossed the line in 144th and Devan Fisher (22:20.14) finished 185th in her second outing in the Black and Gold.
