ANDERSON, S.C. – The Anderson University men's soccer team is preparing to start the South Atlantic Conference portion of their season, as they will be traveling to Gaffney, S.C. to take on the Limestone University Saints.

In the abbreviated spring season, Limestone and Anderson were members of the same group/pod along with Queens (N.C.) and Newberry. Last season, the Trojans won the lone meeting between the two teams by a score of 2-0. Agustin Ortiz scored a pair of goals to lead Anderson to victory.

Limestone comes into the match with a 2-1 record early in the season, most recently losing 3-1 to 20th ranked Young Harris on Saturday (Sept. 11). The Saints picked up a pair of wins in their first two games against region opponents Belmont Abbey and North Greenville.

Angelo Fabricio leads the Saints with two goals this season, including a penalty kick in the Young Harris loss. Goalkeeper Johann Hipper has totaled eight saves in three games. Before the season, Limestone was picked to finish fifth in the SAC Coaches Preseason Poll, with senior forward Tristyn de Laaf being named to All-SAC Preseason Second Team.

For the Trojans, this is the first SAC opponent of the season, before traveling to Salisbury, N.C. to take on Catawba on Saturday. Coach Zion's squad is coming off a great week of two non-conference victories against Mount Olive and Lander. As a team, they scored eight goals in the two matches with five of them coming from Alexandre Cox-Ashwood, who was recently named SAC Astroturf Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for his five goals and one assist in the two wins. Anderson looks to continue playing excellent soccer, as dating back to last season, the team has won seven of their last eight games.

The Trojans will continue their season on Wednesday (Sept. 15) as they travel to take on Limestone in the first conference game of the season. The match is scheduled to begin at 7:30 PM, with video and live stats available at www.autrojans.com.
