ANDERSON, S.C. - Despite winning the shot battle 21-13, Anderson University men's soccer was unable to find the score column, as the Trojans dropped to Lincoln Memorial 1-0 Saturday afternoon at Trojan Stadium.

With the 21 shots, AU managed to trouble Railsplitter goalkeeper Marcel Barwanietz three times, as the goalkeeper tallied his second shutout and seventh victory of the season. Barwanietz's record matches LMU's mark at 7-5-1 overall with a 4-3-1 South Atlantic Conference record, which ties Anderson's SAC mark for third place in the SAC standings. With the loss, AU falls to 9-3-2 overall and snaps a six-match unbeaten streak.

After a scoreless first half, LMU got its eventual game-winner in the 54th minute when senior Mario Pinto, the team's leading goal scorer, made a run from the far side of the field to the top of the box and fired a shot to AU goalkeeper Bo Haug's left. Pinto's shot just beat Haug's outstretched gloves as Pinto tallied his conference leading 12th goal of the year.

Since the goal, AU was on the offensive end for the remaining minutes. The Trojans got off eight of its 21 shots after the goal, but just one troubled Barwanietz. For the match, redshirt sophomore Andre Carle led AU with seven shots with two on goal. Redshirt sophomore Benoit Torres and junior Martin Brain each notched three shots, while redshirt freshman Alex Delpy recorded two.

Haug moved to 8-3-2 on the season in goal, making four saves on the afternoon. The AU backline held Pinto in check for the majority of the match, as he entered Saturday coming off a three-goal performance on Thursday night. Pinto notched five shots, which led LMU.

"We took a step backwards today," head coach John Murphy said. "We had some good moments, but that lack of consistency came back today. We can't dwell on this loss because we have a tough week ahead and we'll shift our focus to that."

Anderson hits the road after two-straight home contests, as the Trojans head to Brevard on Tuesday, Oct. 22. Kickoff is slated for 4 p.m.
