ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - After scoring at least two goals in each of its last four matches, the No. 19 ranked Anderson University men's soccer team settled for a scoreless draw with previously ranked Flagler Tuesday afternoon at Cahall-Sanspur Field.
The 0-0 draw gives Anderson its first tie of the season, as the Trojans were held goalless for the first time since the 2012 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Semifinals when the team went into penalty kicks against Mars Hill. The scoreless draw was also the first time in the regular season the Trojans have gone the full 110 minutes without scoring a goal since the last time AU met Flagler on Oct. 15, 2012.
"We took away a lot of positives today," head coach John Murphy said. "We were missing some starters so our depth really showed and we got some quality performances. William Treichler, Mark Allen, Cameron Lindler and Brad Du Plooy all played well under these circumstances."
The Saints outshot Anderson (4-0-1) for the match, 12-9, but freshman Bo Haug kept the Trojans in the game and recorded his first collegiate shutout. Haug recorded seven saves for the match, as a backline led by Lars Zimmerman, Paul von Hinueber and Alex Delpy helped solidify the clean sheet.
Aaron Roberson, Andre Carle and Benoit Torres all recorded two shots apiece, while Roberson tested Flagler (2-2-1) goalkeeper Camp Bissell twice for the match. Roberson's two shots on goal led the team for the afternoon. Bissell went on to tally three saves on the day.
In the final overtime period, Anderson controlled throughout the 10 minutes as the Trojans notched four shots, including Roberson's final attempt on goal, but failed to score their golden goal. Henrique Gazzi sent in two late corner kicks, but came up empty as the final whistle blew.
"Our attacking was good and our defending was resolute," Murphy said. "Both teams were going at the match strongly and we got a good result on the road."
Anderson returns to action on Saturday when it welcomes SAC newcomer Coker to Trojan Stadium. Kickoff against the Cobras is set for 3:30 p.m., immediately following the women's match.
