Men’s Soccer Kicked Off the 2013 Season on Friday

ANDERSON, S.C. - Feeding off last season's South Atlantic Conference tournament championship, the Anderson University men's soccer team returned to workouts on Friday with hopes of returning back to the title game for the fourth straight season in 2013.

The Trojans began the rainy day at 6 a.m. with a two-mile run at the McCants Middle School track, which each player was challenged to complete in 12 minutes. The morning session concluded with work on defending set pieces.

"Overall, everyone came in fit and that gives us, as coaches, a baseline to which we can work from," head coach John Murphy said. "We can start focusing on more soccer specific tasks so it's a good start for us."

After finishing position-by-position workouts in the afternoon, AU conducted its first heavy training session of the season at the Anderson Sports & Entertainment Soccer Complex in a picture perfect evening. The team went through many passing drills and concluded training with an intrasquad scrimmage of three 15 minute periods.

Anderson begins its schedule with two road scrimmages at Spartanburg Methodist on Aug. 24 and Limestone on Aug. 31, before opening its regular season at Erskine on Sept. 5.
