Anderson Falls To Mount Olive

ANDERSON, S.C. -- Mount Olive earned its first CVAC victory of the season with a 3-0 decision over Anderson University Saturday afternoon at Smethers Field. Mount Olive, 7-5 overall and 1-3 in the CVAC, took control early with a goal at the 5:53 mark by Woody Stilley off a rebound after Chris Varela had played the ball into the box. At the 26:03 mark, Erik Small hit a sizzling shot from 16 yards out that slipped through the gloves of Anderson goalkeeper Alex Jenkins and into the top of the net. Ryan Adamski and Bradley Carroll assisted Small's goal. Mount Olive's third goal came at 64:47 when Adrian Daniels collected a misplay by the Anderson defense and hit a low shot at Anderson goalkeeper Andy Barth. Barth deflected the shot, but the ball took a high bounce and rolled into the net. Mount Olive had 17 shots to Anderson's seven. Chase Smith played the first 85:20 in the Mount Olive net before being replaced by Bryan Stitz, who finished up the shutout. The match was Anderson's fourth in seven days.
