Anderson Survives Late Flurry To Beat Nazarene

ANDERSON, S.C. -- Jon Scott scored at the 84:58 mark and Anderson University survived a frantic final 30 seconds to beat NAIA member MidAmerica Nazarene 2-1 Friday night at Smethers Field. Anderson, 2-1 overall, took a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute on a header by Rayon Markland off a corner kick by Peter Miele. MidAmerica dominated the first half, outshooting Anderson, 17-4, but the Trojans still held a 1-0 lead at the break. The visiting Pioneers got the equalizer at 78:59 when Alec Lemmon scored off a deflection. But just seven minutes later, Michael Zion pushed a pass from the right wing across the box to Scott, a senior from Spartanburg, who found the lower right corner of the net for what proved to be the game winner. Nazarene put on a frantic push in the final five minutes. After a restart with 35 seconds remaining, the Pioneers hit the post once and had two more point-blank shots blocked before time expired. The Pioneers had 31 shots, while Anderson managed just eight. Anderson goalkeepers Alex Jenkins and Andy Barth made five saves apiece. Jenkins had to leave the match in the 37th minute because of a leg injury. 2006 Anderson Men's Soccer Statistics
