Henry Delivers Golden Goal For Trojans

ANDERSON, S.C. -- Stephon Henry scored on a header at the 108:15 mark to give Anderson University a 2-1 victory over Newberry in double overtime in a non-conference match Monday night at Smethers Field. "We've been through three or four matches like this," said Anderson head coach Rob Miller. "It's nice to come out on the winning end of one. The guys are working hard. We're not playing many people because of injuries. This was a good result for us." Anderson is now 1-1 in overtime this season. The Trojans dropped a 3-2 decision in double overtime at Lees-McRae on Sept. 9. Anderson, 4-5 overall, trailed 1-0 until the 75:32 mark when Peter Miele served a corner kick that Newberry goalkeeper Bryan Linn punched away but could not control. Michael Walker managed to head the ball into the Indian net for the equalizer. Anderson goalkeeper Andy Barth saved the Trojans in the 77th minute when he made a diving save on a blast at the lower right corner by Philip Tanner. The Indians, 5-4 overall, thought they scored the Golden Goal just three minutes into the first overtime when Debola Ogunseye intercepted a pass and scored, but Ogunseye was called for a push in the back and the goal was waved off. The match winner came off a corner by Miele that was hit by three different players before Henry headed the ball into the net to end the match. Ogunseye scored Newberry's lone goal at 40:11. Tanner served a corner kick that was deflected and Ogunseye knocked it in. Anderson had 18 shots to Newberry's 16. Barth made three saves to pick up the victory. Anderson returns to action Wednesday at home against USC Upstate. 2006 Anderson Men's Soccer Statistics
