Limestone Survives Late Anderson Push

ANDERSON, S.C. -- Limestone built a 2-0 lead then held on during a furious final 10 minutes to beat Anderson University 2-1 in a CVAC men's match Thursday night at Smethers Field. Limestone, 6-0-1 overall and 2-0 in the CVAC, got two goals from Liam Brown, the first off a corner from Joel Moran at 16:02 and the second one off a pass from Sean Boyle at 62:03, to seize a 2-0 lead. But Anderson's Dave Taylor connected on a 30-yard bomb at 74:05 to cut the Limestone lead to 2-1 and ignite the Trojans. Anderson spent the final 10 minutes trying to get the equalizer but could not connect. Limestone goalkeeper Kyle Schamaltz, who finished the match with eight saves, came up with two big ones in the final 10 minutes. The first he juggled after a point-blank shot by Anderson's Michael Zion. The second one came with just 28 seconds remaining when he stopped a header by Anderson's Rayon Markland. The loss, Anderson's second in the CVAC by one goal, drops the Trojans to 2-3 overall and 0-2 in the CVAC. Anderson outshot Limestone, 13-8. 2006 Anderson Men's Soccer Statistics
