Norwood's Hat Trick Beats Trojans

LAURINBURG, N.C. -- Senior Marques Norwood's hat trick was all the offensive support sophomore goalkeeper Nick Stevens and the St. Andrews men's soccer team needed to post their third consecutive Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference shutout in a 3-0 victory over visiting Anderson University Saturday. The Knights, who are ranked No. 10 in the current NSCAA/adidas Southeast Region Poll, improve to 6-2 overall and 3-0 in the CVAC. The Trojans fall 2-4, 0-2. Norwood tallied his first goal in the 21st minute after receiving a breakaway pass from sophomore Justin Garton. Norwood gave the Knights a 2-0 lead before halftime with his second goal in the 32nd minute. After beating an Anderson defender, Norwood placed a tough-angle shot off the left goal post and into the back of the net. Norwood completed the hat trick in the 85th minute with another breakaway. Sophomore Ryan Ebey set up the final goal with a deep midfield pass. Norwood leads the Knights in scoring with eight goals in eight games. Stevens (6-2) lowered his goals against average to 1.03 after posting his third consecutive and fourth total shutout of the season. Stevens, who has not allowed a goal in 277 minutes, made four saves. Senior Michael Zion provided the best scoring opportunities for AU with a team-high four shots. SAPC took two more shots than the Trojans, 12-10, and had a 7-4 edge on corner kicks.
