Trojans Drop Midweek Decision to Augusta

ANDERSON, S.C. – With each team riding a modest two-game win streak, Augusta claimed its third straight win by defeating Anderson, 16-1 in nonconference baseball action, Wednesday night at Memorial Stadium.

Anderson slipped to 19-22 on the season, while seeing its win halted at two games, while Augusta improved to 20-18 with its third consecutive victory.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
First baseman Brayden Owens and third baseman Kevin Sosa combined to record four of AU's seven hits on the night, with Owens leading off the home half of the fifth inning with a double and notching a ninth-inning single. Sosa posted an RBI-single in the fifth frame and a one-out single in the seventh inning.

Freshman Mac Ketchin (0-1), the first of nine Trojan hurlers on the night, took the loss after allowing four runs in 1.2 innings of work. He walked for Jaguars and struck out one.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Augusta scored five runs in the second inning, with four coming on a two-out grand slam off the bat of center fielder Harrison Aulds, and the Jaguars broke the game open by plating four runs in both the third and fourth innings en route to building a 13-0 cushion.

The Trojans avoided the shutout when Owens led off the fifth inning with his fifth double of the season and crossed the plate two batters later on Sosa's single into left-center.

The Jags rounded out the night's scoring with a three-run seventh inning.
