Baseball to Open Four-Game Road Swing at Newberry

ANDERSON, S.C. – After winning five of eight games on its latest homestand, the Anderson baseball team is set to open a four-game road swing by visiting Newberry in a nonconference contest, Tuesday afternoon. First-pitch at the Wolves' Smith Road Complex is slated for 6 p.m.

THE TROJANS
Anderson will be looking to get back in the win column after dropping a three-game weekend series to No. 24 Lenoir-Rhyne at Memorial Stadium.

The Trojans are a perfect 7-0 when leading after six innings, but six of AU's setbacks have come by a single run and a seventh loss was by just two runs. In their Sunday afternoon setback to the Bears, the Trojans posted their highest run total of the season (10), while matching their highest hit total (15) and highest total-base output of the season with 17 total bases.

Braeden Harrison is riding a five-game hitting streak heading into the midweek matchup, while JC LeGrand has reached base safely in 14 consecutive games and Kye Andress has reached base safely in nine straight contests. Justin Fox, who is 8-of-9 in stolen bases on the season, is tied for sixth in the league in stolen bases.

SCOUTING THE WOLVES
Newberry was tabbed to finish third in the in the SAC Preseason Coaches' Poll, after garnering one first-place vote. The Wolves finished last season with a 38-13 overall record, including a 19-5 mark in the league and finished second in the regular-season conference standings.

Eight Wolves, including all three weekend starters from a season ago, earned Preseason All-Conference recognition. Senior shortstop Braylin Marine, the reigning SAC Player of the Year, and junior Henry Gibson captured first-team honors, while junior Jacob LeBron and sophomore Ethan LeBron each brought home Second-Team All-SAC honors. Sophomores Jomar Lugo, Jonathan Velez Tyler Chinpire and senior Joe LaFiora were each named Preseason Third-Team All-SAC.

Newberry has won two straight decisions and eight of its last 10 outings.

THE SERIES vs. NEWBERRY
The series began in 1998, with Anderson leading the overall series, 36-23, but Newberry has won seven straight and nine of the last 11.

UP NEXT
The Trojans will get back into conference play by traveling to Coker for a three-game weekend series. First-pitch in Hartsville is scheduled for 3 p.m.
