Baseball to Host Bluefield State in Season-Opening Series

ANDERSON, S.C. – For the second consecutive year, the Anderson University baseball team is slated to open the campaign by playing host to Bluefield State in a three-game series, Saturday and Sunday at Memorial Stadium.

First-pitch for Saturday afternoon's twin bill is slated for 1 p.m.

Admission to Trojan baseball games is free and please ignore the outdated "No Animals Allowed" signs on the fencing at Memorial Stadium. AU Athletics promotes a family-friendly atmosphere and dogs of all shapes and sizes are welcome.

THE TROJANS
Fourth-year Trojan head coach P.J. Zocchi's squad is opening the season at Memorial Stadium for the 11th time in 13 years and will play 16 of its first 20 games in the Electric City.

Last year, the Trojans got off to their best start since at least the 1998 campaign and kept their postseason hopes alive into the final day of the regular season. Bidding for their first winning season since the 2003 campaign, the Trojans broke even with a 23-23 record a season ago, while becoming the first squad to reach at least .500 since the 2003 team went 31-22 and recorded the program's most wins since the 2018 squad posted 25 victories.

SCOUTING THE BIG BLUE
Bluefield State went 22-27 overall last season, while posting its first 20-win season in school history a year ago.

THE SERIES vs. BLUEFIELD STATE
The Trojans and Big Blue met last season for the first time in program history, with AU sweeping the season-opening three-game series.

AU welcomes Southern Wesleyan to the Electric City for a midweek matchup, Tuesday afternoon. First-pitch vs. the Warriors at Memorial Stadium is set for 4 p.m.
