Baseball Drops Two to Emory and Henry

ANDERSON, S.C. – The Anderson baseball team wrapped up a three-game weekend series by dropping a doubleheader with Emory & Henry, 2-1, and ,7-5, in nonconference baseball action, Saturday at Memorial Stadium.

Anderson slipped to 2-5, while Emory & Henry improved to 4-3 on the young season with the three-game series sweep.

Game #1
Emory & Henry 2, Anderson 1
The Trojans were limited to two hits in the opener, with senior Carlos Hernandez reaching on a error and scoring the Trojans' lone (unearned) run in the second inning. He also posted a one-out single in the fourth inning. Designated hitter Gray Wells drove in Hernandez with a clutch two-out single in the second and also reached on a lead-off walk in the fifth.

Trey Princiotto (0-2) absorbed the loss after allowing just two runs on six hits over five innings. He struck out four and walked just one of the 22 batters he faced. Freshman Mac Ketchin gave up just one single, while walking one and striking out one in two innings of relief.

Game #2
Emory & Henry 7, Anderson 5
Junior shortstop Kye Andress was a perfect 2-for-2 a the plate in the nightcap, with the Hendersonville, N.C., native also reaching base when he was hit by a pitch in the third inning. Senior Justin Fox was 1-for-3 at the plate, with a single and also reached on a walk and was hit by a pitch. Junior JC LeGrand added a two-run double in four trips to the plate.

Junior Nick Miller (0-1) took the loss after surrendering three runs on two hits in 1/3 of an inning.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1
The Trojans took an early lead in the bottom of the second when Hernandez's lead-off line drive to centerfield was misplayed and he ended up on second base. Two batters later he moved to third when Brayden Owens bounced out to second and crossed the plate when Wells singled back up the middle.

The Wasps evened the score with a solo run in the top of the third and scored what proved to be the winning run with two outs in the top of the fourth.

Game 2
Errors proved costly to the Black and Gold in the nightcap, with E&H plating three unearned runs in the third and fourth innings, while building a four-run cushion with a solo run in the sixth.

The Trojans got their first hit when Andress led off the sixth with a double, moved to thirds on a wild pitch and crossed the plate when Jordan Montgomery bounced out to the right side.

AU knotted the score with three unearned runs in the bottom of the eighth, with LeGrand's two-out double to right-center bringing home two of the runs.

But the Wasps responded with three runs in the ninth to regain the lead and the Trojans pulled within two, but were unable to get any closer.

UP NEXT
The Trojans will go on the road for the first time this season by traveling to Lander, Tuesday afternoon. First-pitch in Greenwood is slated for 4 p.m.
