Baseball Falls to 12th-Ranked North Greenville

ANDERSON, S.C. – The Anderson baseball team opened a four-game homestand with a 10-4 loss to nationally-ranked North Greenville, in nonconference action, Tuesday afternoon at Memorial Stadium.

Anderson (10-12) suffered its sixth straight setback, while North Greenville (18-5-1) avenged an earlier 12-11 loss to the Trojans with its second straight win.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Freshman catcher Ryan Brash posted three of the Trojans' seven hits on the afternoon, as the Aiken, S.C., native posted a pair of singles and drove in three runs with a two-out double in the eighth inning. Juniors Trevor Weisner and Davis Goodyear each posted singles and reached on walks.

Senior Brent Reynolds – the first of eight Trojan hurlers on the day – drew the start and fell to 1-2 on the season despite surrendering just one run on two hits in two complete innings on the mound. The left-hander struck out one and did not walk a batter.

HOW IT HAPPENED
North Greenville posted a solo run in the top of the second inning and added two more runs in the third inning, while building a 6-0 lead with three runs in the fifth frame. AU got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth when Goodyear drew a leadoff walk, moved into scoring position on Brash's single through the left side and scored two batters later when Jacob Kohns bounced out to the right side.

The Crusaders pushed out to a nine-run advantage by adding a pair of runs in both the seventh and eighth innings, with AU rounding out the scoring with three runs in the bottom of the eighth. Senior Dillon Carpenter was hit by a pitch with two outs and the Trojans loaded the bases when Weisner and Goodyear posted back-to-back singles. Brash then cleared the bases with his fifth double of the season.
