Baseball Extravaganza: Trojans Set to Host Three Teams; Six Games at Memorial Stadium

ANDERSON, S.C. – If you like collegiate baseball, Anderson's Memorial Stadium is the place to be this weekend, as the Trojans are slated to host three teams in a six-game round robin, beginning Friday afternoon.

Augusta will start things off on the diamond by squaring off against Saginaw Valley at 3 p.m., with the Trojans playing host to the Jags at 7 p.m.

Saturday's action will feature a triple-header, starting with Lake Erie taking on Augusta at 11 a.m., with AU and Lake Erie tangling at 3 p.m. The Trojans and Saginaw Valley are scheduled to face off in the day's final contest.

Saginaw Valley and Lake Erie are slated to wrap up the three-day event with a Sunday morning contest at 11 a.m.

Admission to Trojan baseball games is free - No pets are allowed inside Memorial Stadium with the exception of service dogs.

THE TROJANS
The Trojans are 4-2 on the season after winning two of their last three, including a come-from-behind, 7-4, win over longtime rival Erskine Wednesday night at Memorial Stadium.

Junior Nick Vella leads the Trojans and ranks second in the South Atlantic Conference with a .571 batting average. The Queens, N.Y., native is also second in the league in on-base percentage (.625) and doubles (4) and third in slugging percentage (.857).

Redshirt senior Dillon Carpenter is riding a six-game hitting streak entering the weekend and is tied for third in the SAC with a .500 batting average and ranks in the top-10 in hits, RBI, walks, on-base percentage and slugging percentage. Leadoff hitter Jacob Kohns is hitting .304 on the season and has reached base safely in all six contests.

Four different Trojan hurlers have garnered wins this season, while sophomore right-hander Lucas Smith leads the starters with a stellar 2.70 ERA. Senior closer Christian Carpenter leads the conference with four saves and has fanned five batters in 3 2/3 innings of work and has yet to issue a walk.

SCOUTING THE JAGUARS
Augusta was tabbed to finish 11th in the Peach Belt Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll, after posting an 18-31 overall record last season, including a 7-23 mark in conference play and finishing 11th in the league standings.

The Jaguars enter this weekend seeking their first win of the season after dropping six straight to start the campaign.

THE SERIES vs. AUGUSTA
The Trojans and Jaguars have met 40 times since the 1998 season, with Augusta leading the all-time series, 21-19.

The Jags defeated the Trojans, 14-4, in Augusta last season and completed the sweep with a 12-6 win at Memorial Stadium.

SCOUTING THE STORM
Lake Erie was tabbed to finish fourth in the East Division of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll, after posting a 29-22 overall record last season, including a 19-11 mark in conference play and finishing tied for fourth in the league standings, alongside Kentucky Wesleyan.

The Storm are opening their season this weekend at Memorial Stadium.

THE SERIES vs. LAKE ERIE
Saturday's contest will be the first-ever meeting between the Trojans and Lake Erie.

SCOUTING THE CARDINALS
Saginaw Valley was picked to finish seventh in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll, after posting a 21-29-1 overall record last season, including an 11-16-1 mark in conference play and finishing sixth in the league standings.

The Cardinals' Friday afternoon contest against Augusta will be their season-opener.

THE SERIES vs. SAGINAW VALLEY
The Trojans and Cardinals will be meeting for the first time in program history on Saturday night.
