Back-to-Back; Smith Earns Second Straight AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week Accolade

ROCK HILL, S.C. – For the second time in as many weeks, Anderson University sophomore Lucas Smith has been named the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week, as announced by the conference office Tuesday Morning.

Smith, also the reigning Southeast Region Pitcher of the Week, made a bid for back-to-back honors after tossing his second nine-inning complete-game gem in as many outings last Friday night. The native of St. Petersburg, Fla., scattered five hits over the nine innings while allowing just one run. He struck out six batters and walked just two, while allowing just three runners to reach scoring position.

The right-hander leads the SAC with his two complete-game gems and remains one of only five hurlers in the SAC to toss a complete game this season – and the only one yet to post a nine-inning complete game.

Smith is second in the SAC with 28.0 innings pitched and strikeouts (34), while ranking fourth with a 1.29 ERA.

Last week, he became the first Trojan pitcher to capture the honor since standout Christian Carpenter garnered the award twice last season.
