Anderson’s Smith, Tusculum’s Ezra Earn NCBWA Weekly Honors

WINGATE, N.C. – Tusculum University junior infielder Luis Ezra (Miami, Fla.) has been named the Southeast Region Player of the Week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA), officials announced Tuesday afternoon. Anderson University sophomore right-hander Lucas Smith (St. Petersburg, Fla.) is the NCBWA Southeast Region Pitcher of the Week.

Ezra led the Pioneers to a 5-0 record last week, hitting .538 with two doubles, two homers, 10 RBI, five runs scored and four walks. Four of his seven hits were for extra bases, compiling a 1.154 slugging percentage with a .647 on-base percentage.

Smith posted a 1-0 record last week, picking up a 7-0 complete-game shutout victory over Augusta (7-0). He went the distance, throwing nine innings, allowing no runs and just three hits while striking out 16 batters. Smith also saw action in a mid-week contest against Erskine where he threw one inning allowing just one hit with one strikeout.
