Baseball Readies for Midweek Games against Saints and Lions

ANDERSON, S.C. – After winning the season-opening weekend series against King, the Anderson University baseball team is set to visit Limestone on Tuesday, then return to Memorial Stadium for a brief one-game homestand when Emmanuel invades the Electric City, Wednesday afternoon.

First-pitch for Tuesday's contest in Gaffney is scheduled for 5 p.m., while Wednesday's game at Memorial Stadium is slated for a 3 p.m. start.

Admission to Trojan baseball games is free - No pets are allowed inside Memorial Stadium with the exception of service dogs.

THE TROJANS
The Trojans are 2-1 on the early season after sweeping last Saturday's season-opening doubleheader with King, before falling to the Tornado on Sunday afternoon.

Redshirt senior Dillon Carpenter leads the Trojans with a .600 batting average, after going 6-for-10 and notching a 1.100 slugging percentage over the three-game span. Carpenter scored four times, while ripping a pair of doubles, a home run and drove in five runs. He also drew four walks. Junior Nick Vella is hitting .556, with three doubles, a triple and has driven in seven runs, while senior Cody Adams and sophomore Logan Jackson are each batting .333 on the season.

Sophomore right-hander Lucas Smith and freshman left-hander Ethan Stalnecker each captured wins over the weekend, while senior closer Christian Carpenter earned saves in both ends of Saturday's twin bill.

SCOUTING THE SAINTS
Limestone was tabbed to finish seventh in the Conference Carolinas' Preseason Coaches' Poll, after posting a 17-31 overall record last season, including a 11-15 mark in conference play and finishing seventh in the league standings.

Sophomore first baseman/pitcher Benjamin Huber (Pendleton, S.C.), redshirt-junior catcher Kyle Strovink (Rocky Point, N.Y.), and NJCAA All-American transfer Brian Forbes (Rocky Point, N.Y.) were named "Players to Watch" in Conference Carolinas this season.

The Saints opened the season by dropping three straight to Carson-Newman over the weekend.

THE SERIES vs. LIMESTONE
The Trojans and Saints have met 67 times since the 1998 season, with Anderson leading the all-time series, 34-33.

The two teams did not square off last season, but the Trojans swept Limestone, 9-4 and 6-1, the last time they met – at Memorial Stadium on April 16, 2018.

SCOUTING THE LIONS
Emmanuel was tabbed to finish sixth in the Conference Carolinas' Preseason Coaches' Poll, after posting a 25-27 overall record last season, including a 11-15 mark in conference play and finishing sixth in the league standings.

Senior catcher Kyle Gaura (Las Vegas, Nev.), senior outfielder Quinn Tomasino (Greeley, Colo.) and senior pitcher Colton Bridges (Carnesville, Ga.) were named "Players to Watch" in Conference Carolinas this season.

The Lions opened the season by dropping a 5-4 decision to Albany State last Saturday, while West Alabama swept a twin bill, 13-2 and 13-3, from the Lions on Sunday.

THE SERIES vs. EMMANUEL
Emmanuel leads the overall series, 11-10, after defeating Anderson, 10-2, last April at Memorial Stadium.

The series began in 1998, while the two teams did not play from 2004-2015.
