Three Trojans Honored on Postseason All-SAC Teams

ROCK HILL, S.C. - With the opening round of the 2015 South Atlantic Conference Baseball Tournament scheduled to get underway on Thursday, the conference office announced its All-SAC awards winners, as Anderson University baseball standouts Steven Cooper, LJ Newman and Kyle Bailey were all named to all-conference teams.

Cooper headlined the trio, as he claimed a spot on the All-SAC Second Team, while Newman was placed on the Honorable Mention list. Bailey claimed his first-ever all-conference accolade by being tabbed as the conference's Gold Glove winner for second basemen.

For the second straight season, Cooper lands on a postseason team, as he ranks sixth in the conference in home runs with nine and eighth in RBI with 42. The junior is seven hits shy from his second consecutive year with 70 or more hits for a season, as he ranks 11th in the league with 63 on the campaign.

Cooper's season has been headlined by a five-hit performance against Tusculum on March 28, and a walk-off two-run home run to defeated Brevard on April 3. The Williamston, S.C. native also knocked a home run in every game of a three-game at Lenoir-Rhyne earlier this season.

Newman claims his first postseason all-conference accolade, as leads the team and ranks third in the SAC in doubles with 17 for the year. The Piedmont, S.C. native has recorded eight games this season where he notched three hits, to go along with his hitting streak of 13 and 11 games. The catcher also ranks eighth in the SAC in hits with 66 and sixth in total bases with 106.

The junior also leads the SAC in the most runners thrown out from the catcher position with 13, as he has made 27 starts behind the plate this season.

Making 39 starts in the middle infield this season, Bailey has made just six errors and holds a .966 fielding percentage on the season. The Grayson, Ga. native was a part of 24 doubles plays this season, which slots him 11th in the SAC, as he becomes the second middle infielder in as many years to claim the Gold Glove Award after teammate Brett Cash claimed the Gold Glove honor a season ago.

The Trojan trio looks to lead Anderson on Thursday when it begins its SAC Tournament campaign against seventh-seeded Brevard in the opening round. First pitch from McNair Field in Forest City, N.C. is scheduled for 7 p.m.
