Women’s Cross Country Narrowly Misses Third Straight Appearance at National Championships with Fourth-Place Showing at NCAA Southeast Regional

WINGATE, N.C. – Led by Olivia Rish's personal-best time, the Anderson women's cross country team finished fourth at the 2019 NCAA Southeast Regional, which was hosted by Wingate on the Bulldog's campus for the second time in three years.

With five runners finishing in the top-20, Queens defended its regional championship, with Flagler claiming the runner-up spot and Wingate finishing just in front of the Trojans.

The top three teams automatically advanced to the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships, which will be held Saturday, Nov. 23, at the Haggin Oaks Golf Complex, in Sacramento, Calif.

Rish crossed the 6K distance in a personal-best time of 22:57.6 en route to a 16th -place finish and All-Region honors. Olivia Evans crossed the finish line in 24th place in a time of 23:10.2 and also claimed All-Region accolades. Kelsey Horner claimed 29th place in a time of 23:15.3, with Hannah Beach capturing 44th place on the strength of a personal-best time of 23:40.1.

Rebecca Ward (23:45.0) and Melea Sangl (24:01.2) finished 50th and 54th, respectively, while Aubrey Stoddard crossed the finish line in 74th place in a time of 24:36.0.

The Trojan women will await the NCAA selection committee's decisions on possible individual at-large bids to the national championships. The selections are expected on Monday.
