Women’s Cross Country Team Continues to Build Legacy by Earning Athletic Department’s Highest Academic Honor

ANDERSON, S.C. – For a departmental-record 10th time and the fourth time in six semesters, the Anderson University women's cross country team has captured top academic honors in the Athletic Department following the spring semester, as announced by the department on Friday afternoon.

"Dr. Jacks continues to be an integral part of the AU Athletic family and we are thrilled to again recognize our women's cross country team with the honor of this award," said Vice-President for Athletics Bert Epting, Jr. "Having won this award for the 10th time and fourth in the last six semesters is an amazing accomplishment – we are so proud of what this team has continued to do both in the classroom and on the course."

Competition among the Trojans in the classroom was as challenging as ever, with nearly every team achieving at least a 3.0 GPA for the semester – including four teams above a 3.50 GPA - and the Athletic Department as a whole setting a new departmental record for the second consecutive semester with a stellar 3.285 GPA.

The women's cross country team edged the volleyball squad (3.581 GPA) by notching a 3.698 GPA this past semester, which was just shy of its' remarkable 3.784 GPA recorded during the fall semester.

The Dr. Shirley Jacks Award is given to the team that possesses the highest grade point average at the end of each semester and the women's cross country team will be presented the trophy at an athletic event during the spring.
