Trojans Set for Conference Match against Brevard

ANDERSON, S.C. - Looking to snap a winless drought, Anderson University women's soccer begins a stretch of three straight home contests on Wednesday when it welcomes Brevard to Trojan Stadium for a South Atlantic Conference matchup. Kickoff from Trojan Stadium is scheduled for 1 p.m.

The Trojans
A late, second-half goal from Lincoln Memorial doomed AU, as the Trojans fell on the road Saturday afternoon to the Lady Railsplitters, 1-0. With the setback, Anderson enters the midweek matchup with a 4-8-1 overall mark with a 2-5-1 record in the SAC, earning seven points. The loss drops the Trojans out of the top-8 in the league standings as Coker overtook AU for the eighth spot with a 2-0 win over Carson-Newman on Saturday as the Cobras hold nine points.

Despite the lop-sided record, Anderson is tied for fifth in the league with 21 goals scored, as just six teams in the SAC have scored 20 or more goals on the year. In conference matches, Anderson ranks higher with 15 goals in eight contests, placing it tied for third. On the opposite side, AU has allowed 28 goals, which is the fifth-most in the SAC this season.

Freshman Lyssa Engle continues to lead the club with nine goals, but she has been held goalless in the last four matches, as the Trojans have managed one goal as a team in the span. Junior defender Faith Johannes is the only AU player to scoring in the four-match stretch, scoring in a nonconference setback to in-state rival, Lander, on Oct. 15.

In goal, sophomore goalkeeper Sadie Lancaster leads the conference in goalkeeper minutes played with over 1,185. For the season, Lancaster has made 54 saves, which ranks fifth in the conference, and is responsible for two shutouts.

The Tornados
Brevard has dropped its last five matches, headlined by a 3-2 double-overtime setback at Catawba on Saturday. In the setback streak, BC has been out-scored 17-3 as Saturday's two-goal performance marked the Tornados' first goal for October. With the skid, Brevard carries a 3-10 overall record with a 1-7 record in league play.

Junior forward Katherine Nickels leads Brevard with four goals this season as she comes to Trojan Stadium as the only multi-goal scorer for the visitors this season. Nickels posts 14 shots on the year with 10 coming on goal as she leads the squad in both categories.

In goal, freshman Jocelyn Springer has made 66 saves for the year and has played in over 1,171 minutes. Springer is tied with Lancaster in shutouts with two on the season as she made seven saves in the 3-2 setback at Catawba.

The Series
After a 3-0 win over Brevard a season ago, Anderson is undefeated against its Tar Heel State rival, as it enters Wednesday's contest with a perfect 4-0 record since 2010.
