Trojans Continue Conference Play on Saturday against Mars Hill

ANDERSON, S.C. -After settling for its first draw of the season on Wednesday, Anderson University women's soccer looks to return to the win column on Saturday when it welcomes Mars Hill to the Electric City for a South Atlantic Conference matchup. Kickoff from Trojan Stadium is scheduled for 1 p.m.

The Trojans
On Wednesday, AU and SAC rival Queens played to a 1-1 tie at Trojan Stadium, handing the Trojans their first draw of the season. With the tie, Anderson moved to 3-3-1 on the year with a 1-1-1 mark within the SAC. Despite the even record, the Trojans currently rank second in the conference in shots on goal with 64 and in shots on goal percentage (.552).

A main contributor to that stat has been freshman Maddie Volz, who ranks second in the conference in shots on goal with 15. Volz is currently one of 10 players in the league with double figures in the category, as she is joined by teammate Mariana Poveda with 11. To go along with her ranking in the shots on goal list, Volz ranks fourth in assists with three and in points with 11. The freshman is also responsible for two game-winning goals this season.

Volz is currently even with classmate Lyssa Engle with goals, as the tandem has scored four goals apiece. Engle was AU's lone goal scorer in the 1-1 draw against Queens on Wednesday, as her eight points on the year is second behind Volz's 11. Teammates Alaina Gay and Rachael Whaling each have a pair of goals to their credit.

In goal, sophomore Sadie Lancaster has played in every minute between the posts thus far into the season. Lancaster has made 20 saves on the year and has accumulated three clean sheets.

The Lions
Mars Hill enters the weekend still searching for its first win of the season, as it has dropped its first seven matches to open the year. Most recently, the Lions suffered a 4-1 setback to Lincoln Memorial on Wednesday, as MHU has been outscored by three goals in its last two contests.

Leading the Mars Hill attack is freshman midfielder Breona Tate with two of MHU's four goals on the year. Tate's 14 shots for the season ranks 14th in the conference, but her 12 shots on goal place her tied for fourth in the category. With her accuracy, Tate is first in shots on goal percentage among the ten players with double figure shots on goal (.857).

Defensively, goalkeeper Tori Stajduhar has made five starts and has recorded 47 saves, placing her second in the conference. Sophomore Maslyn Greene has two starts under her belt and enters the weekend with 11 saves.

The Series
Since AU joined the SAC prior to the 2010 season, Mars Hill claimed its first point against the Trojans with a scoreless draw a season ago. Prior to the tie, Anderson was a perfect 3-0 against the Lions, outscoring its Tar Heel State rival 5-0 in the span.
