Trojans Welcome Queens to Trojan Stadium on Wednesday

ANDERSON, S.C. - Snapping a three-match winless streak on Saturday with a 9-0 shutout of South Atlantic Conference rival Coker, Anderson University women's soccer continues its league schedule and returns home on Wednesday to square off against Queens. Kickoff from Trojan Stadium is set for 2 p.m.

The Trojans
With Saturday's win, AU captured its largest winning margin since defeating North Greenville 10-0 in the 2002 season. After being outscored 11-1 in the previous three matches, the Trojans scored the most goals in a match since a 9-1 win over Coker in 2010. With the victory, AU is an even 3-3 on the year and 1-1 in conference play.

Freshman attacker Maddie Volz paced the Anderson offense on Saturday as she closed the match with a hat trick and two assists, totaling eight points for the evening. Volz became the first Trojan since Danielle Boltin to post a hat trick after she netted three goals in the 2010 triumph over Coker. Teammates Alaina Gay and Lyssa Engle followed Volz with two goals apiece, while Emily Cowan and Brooke Forrest added late second half goals to close the scoring spree.

With her three goals on Saturday, Volz took the team lead in goals scored on the year with four, as she is one goal ahead of Engle, who sits in second place. Volz's 21 shots on the campaign ranks just ahead of junior Mariana Poveda, who entered Saturday's match with the team lead. Poveda, who finished with four shots against Coker, has posted 19 shots on the year.

As a team, Anderson currently ranks second in goals scored with 14 and in shots with 99.

Defensively, sophomore goalkeeper Sadie Lancaster posted her third clean sheet of the season on Saturday, as she tallied three saves. On the year, Lancaster has made 15 saves which ties her for ninth in the SAC.

The Royals
Queens jumped back into the win column after a four-match setback streak with a 3-0 shutout win over Brevard on Saturday. With the triumph, the Royals enter Wednesday's contest with a 2-5 overall record and an even 1-1 mark within the SAC. Despite its slow start to the year, Queens is coming off a 10-win season where it went 5-4-2 in the league.

The Royals are led by Kelly Gottry with two goals on 14 shots this season, as she leads the team in both categories. As a team, Queens ranks eighth in the SAC in goals scored with six and seventh in the league in shots with 74. Despite the six goals scored on the year, the Royals have allowed 11 goals and 111 shots.

In goal, Tori Danchak has started in six of Queens' seven matches and ranks third in the SAC in saves with 30. Danchak is 2-2 on the year and is responsible for both of the Royals' two shutouts on the year.

The Series
Last season, Anderson and Queens met for the first time as both teams being members of the SAC. Despite Emily Perez's 62nd minute goal, the Trojans were unable to hang to their one-goal lead as Gottry scored in the 76th minute to close the match's scoring.

Last year marked the first meeting between the schools since both teams were members of Conference Carolinas in 2009.
