Engle Earns Co-Conference Player of the Week

ROCK HILL, S.C. -After scoring all five goals for Anderson University women's soccer this past week, freshman forward Lyssa Engle was named AstroTurf Co-South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week, announced by the league office on Monday.

After her offensive explosion last week, Engle becomes the first Trojan to earn the honor since Allie Waters claimed the weekly award on Oct. 19, 2011. With her five goals, the Fairborn, Ohio native took over the team-lead in goals scored with eight as she is currently tied with Lenoir-Rhyne's Garcelle Alequine and Catawba's Kate Weisner for the conference lead.

Engle began her week with the match's first goal against Queens as she received a pass from fellow freshman Maddie Volz and fired a shot into the left corner to give Anderson a 1-0 lead in the fifth minute of action. Unable to hang on to their lead, the Trojans settled for their first draw of the season, tying the Royals, 1-1.

On Saturday, Engle notched another early goal, scoring in the fourth minute against SAC rival Mars Hill. After the Lions evened up the scoreline a minute later, Engle added two more goals before halftime to complete her hat trick and give the home side a 3-1 lead. The forward added on an insurance goal in the 90th minute to become just the second player in the conference this season to score four goals in a match.

Engle shares the weekly honor with Newberry's Gabrielle Brodie who scored a goal in each of the Wolves' two wins last week.

Engle and the rest of the Trojans return to action on Saturday when it welcomes Tusculum to Trojan Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
