ANDERSON, S.C-The Anderson University men's and women's basketball teams are partnering with several hundred other schools around the country to participate in the WBCA's 2022 Play 4Kay initiative Saturday, Feb. 12th when the Trojans play host to Lenoir-Rhyne at 2 p.m./4p.m. at the Abney Athletic Center.

The Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) promotes Breast Cancer Awareness with the Play 4Kay initiative which honors Coach Kay Yow, from North Carolina State, who lost her life to breast cancer. AU Athletics will circulate literature and are asking everyone to wear pink. In addition, members of the Trojan women's basketball team will wear pink uniforms to commemorate the occasion.
The lobby of the Abney Center will feature raffle items that include gift cards from various restaurants and gas cards. Raffle tickets will be available for a dollar each. A silent auction will also be setup and will feature gift cards from downtown businesses. Other student-athletes and volunteers will be doing their part by accepting donations from fans throughout the doubleheader.
There will also be a Survivor's Walk during the half-time of the women's game at approximately 2:30 p.m.
Every South Atlantic Conference women's basketball program has joined together in the fight against cancer by taking part in the initiative. The mission of the initiative, which began in 2007 and has raised more than $2 million, is to develop a nation of coaches raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond.
Each SAC women's basketball team has designated a game to support the Play 4Kay initiative. Fans are encouraged to attend these games and contribute to the fund, which furthers cancer research.
Support for the AU Play4Kay initiative is being provided by Anderson University SGA, Spero Financial, Dolce Vita, Firehouse Subs, Phil Jewelers, Canela's, Figs, Propp, Bark, The Smokin' Pig, Ingles, Indigo Custom Framing and Artisan Market, City Seed at the Station, Get the Grade Tutoring, Apple Dumplin, Cox Family Dentistry, Mac's Dry Cleaning, Charlie's and Nancy and Wayne Simpson.
Play4Kay is named after legendary coach Kay Yow, who fought a courageous and very public battle against breast cancer to build a platform dedicated to improving and extending the lives of cancer patients. After three recurrences of the disease, Coach Yow passed away on January 24, 2009.
