Trojans Suffer Setback As Cougars Run Away With Win; 99-53

Anderson, S.C. – Anderson University (7-4) women's basketball team could not overcome its 28 turnovers falling to nonconference opponent Columbus State (6-3), 99-53, on Saturday afternoon at the Abney Athletic Center.

"We came out flat and dug ourselves a hole and could not recover from it," said head coach Jonathon Barbaree. "We need to take care of the basketball and guard the ball without fouling."

Five Columbus State players reached double-digit scoring with Jurnee Smith scoring a game-high 18 points. Smith also ripped down 10 rebounds for the Cougars. Imani Arnold scored 16 points, while Kristyn Goshay netted 15 points. Olonna Rawls and Alycia Reese chipped in 13 and 10 points, respectively.

Anderson was limited to one player reaching double-digit scoring. Junior Nelliah Wilson came off the bench to score 10 points and pull down nine rebounds in 25 minutes of action.

Columbus State turned the 28 miscues into 32 points, shot 54.1% from the field, made 8-of-16 from behind the arc on the night and made 25-of-33 foul shots to help keep the game lopsided.

Anderson returns to conference action when it travels to Lenoir-Rhyne on Wednesday. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 pm.
