Big Third Quarter Propels Clayton State Over Trojans; 73-48

St. Augustine, Fla. –Anderson University women's basketball team dropped its second straight contest, 73-48, against nonconference opponent Clayton State in the final day of the Southeast Region Crossover on Saturday afternoon at Flagler Gymnasium.

Anderson (0-2) held a two-point lead over Clayton State (2-0) after one period of play, with the game knotted up after two quarters of action, 30-30.

The Trojans came out of halftime cold and the Lakers red hot. For the period, Clayton State outscored AU 29-10 and for the second half of play, 43-18, to set the final score.

"Tough two games for us, but on the positive side some young players got a lot of opportunity to get some valuable minutes," said head coach Jonathon Barbaree. "It will be up to us to see how we grow with those lessons as other players try to get healthy the next few weeks."

Reserve Diamond McDowell led AU in scoring with 10 points. McDowell also pulled down six rebounds in 24 minutes of action.

Senior Britney Bailey ripped down 16 rebounds while scoring eight points. Junior Nelliah Wilson also came up big on the boards, pulling down 10 rebounds while chipping in six points.

Leading all scorers was Clayton States Timi'a Swanson, scoring 20 points for the Lakers. Swanson was also credited with three steals, playing a huge role in AU's 29 turnovers.

Anderson will begin South Atlantic Conference action on Wednesday when it travels to Lincoln Memorial. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 pm.
