CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Anderson men's cross country team finished 21st at the Royals Cross Country Challenge, hosted by Queens University of Charlotte Friday at McAlpine Creek Park.
The men's 8k event, a preview of both next month's conference championship and the NCAA Southeast Regional, saw five South Atlantic Conference teams compete along with 700 competitors and 35 teams, in addition to Division I schools such as Florida State, Georgia Tech, Elon and Davidson, UNC-Greensboro and UNC-Asheville.
Sophomore Nigel Reynolds led the Trojans across the finish line in a time of 26:57.3, in 113th, with freshman Kyle Koby (27:00.3) posting a 116th place finish. Newcomer Parks Edwards (27:10.4) claimed 125th, while sophomore Alex Pena (27:10.4) garnered 131st.
Freshman Deniz Hay (27:19.3) notched 133rd, sophomore Matt Shaffer (27:57.4) finished 161st and freshman Will Belue (28:44.5) crossed in 185th, with freshman Drew Mahaffey (29:44.9) rounding out the Trojan contingent with a 195th place finish.
Anderson will get back on the course Friday, Oct. 22, when the Trojans travel to Claflin University in Orangeburg, S.C.
