Men’s Cross Country Finishes Ninth at Eye-Opener

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Anderson men's cross country team posted an impressive beginning to the 2010 season as the Trojans recorded a ninth-place finish at USC Upstate's 27th Annual Eye Opener Saturday morning at the Milliken Research Park.

"The men's team looked great today," said Anderson head coach Randy Greer. "They were a little nervous about their first 8K but they really came out and did well. To be so young we really had some guys step up and take the lead."

Facing a field that included eight Division I squads, AU was just eight seconds behind Lenoir-Rhyne, which posted a second-place place finish at the 2009 South Atlantic Conference Championships.

Freshman Kyle Koby (27:10) led the Trojan men's effort, garnering a 36th-place finish, while sophomore Alex Pena (27:41) crossed the finish line in 53rd. Four Trojans finished closely, as Nigel Reynolds (28:02) and a freshman trio of Will Belue (28:07), Deniz Hay (28:07) and Parks Edwards finished 66th, 68th , 69th and 70th, respectively.

The Trojans return to action Saturday, Sept. 17, at the Clemson Invitational.
