Cardona's Hat Trick Leads Trojans to 4-0 Win Over Emory & Henry

ANDERSON, S.C. – The Anderson University men's soccer team earned their way back into the win column with a dominant 4-0 win over Emory & Henry on Saturday (Sept. 30) at Spero Financial Field. The Trojans entered the match coming off a 6-0 loss earlier in the week to No.5 nationally ranked Limestone University on the road Wednesday (Sept. 27).

Anderson came out clicking on all cylinders, controlling possession early on and setting up opportunities in the attacking third. The Trojans outshot the Wasps 10 to zero in the first 45 minutes of action, combined with stellar backline play from Mariano Carpena, Willi Thompson, Tiago Perez, and Pol Elias.

The Trojans were awarded a corner kick in the 13th minute, which would be taken by Elian Munoz. He perfectly placed the ball on the far side to Ivan Cardona who found the back of the net for the first goal of the match. In the 28th minute, Diego Jaramillo escaped the Emory & Henry defense and scored his second goal of the season, and second goal of the night for Anderson. The home team scored once more before the halftime intermission in the 40th minute, as Pol Elias set up Ivan Cardona for his second goal of the first half, as the Trojans went into break with a 3-0 cushion.

The Wasps were able to test goalkeeper Franco Antoniolli Funes on two occasions in the second half, but the Trojan goalkeeper picked two saves to preserve the clean sheet. Anderson was able to pad on one more score in the 76th minute when Ivan Cardona notched the hat trick for his third goal of the night, leading his team to the 4-0 victory.

"Solid team performance tonight and exactly the response we needed after a tough result on Wednesday," said coach Michael Zion. "We must focus on getting better one game at a time in order to keep picking up points to climb up the table."

Anderson will be back in action on Wednesday (Oct. 4) as they play host to Tusculum University. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m., with video and live stats available at autrojans.com.
