North Georgia Defeats Anderson 3-1

DAHLONEGA, GA – The Anderson University men's soccer team dropped a non-conference contest on the road at North Georgia on Wednesday (Sept. 13) by a score of 3-1.

The Trojans entered the match with a 1-1 record on the season, splitting their two matches in Florida against No.3 Barry and Nova Southeastern to conclude the month of August. Anderson's match on Saturday (Sept. 9) at Carson-Newman was postponed after 30 minutes of action with the Trojans leading 1-0. That match has now been rescheduled to resume on October 25th at 5:00 PM.

North Georgia came out and set the tone early on as they found the back of the net less than 10 minutes into the match to take a 1-0 advantage. Stellar defense from the Nighthawks kept the Trojans scoreless for the remainder of the half as goalkeeper Hazel Ley picked up two saves.

It was a chippy second half with there being four yellow cards between the two squads. Anderson was able to control the possession but struggled in the attacking third to create scoring opportunities as they were outshot by North Georgia four to two. UNG added on to their lead in the 75th minute, followed by a quick response from the Trojans as Mariano Carpena scored off a rebound in the 79th for the first goal. The Nighthawks put the icing on the cake in the 89th minute with another goal to clinch the 3-1 victory.

The Trojans will be back in action on Saturday (Sept. 16) for their home opener of the season as they play host to Lincoln Memorial. Game time is set for 6:30 p.m. with video and live stats available at autrojans.com.
