Trojans Fall to Nova Southeastern 2-0

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Anderson University men's soccer team came up short on the road Saturday night (Sept. 2) to the Nova Southeastern Sharks by a score of 2-0. The Trojans came into the match riding high off an upset win against No.3 Barry University, scoring two goals in the closing minutes to cap the second half rally.

The Sharks were able to seize control in the first half as in the fifth minute of action, Anderson goalkeeper Franco Antoniolli Funes was given a red card, forcing Amos Uber into action. Moments later, Theo Oherwall escaped the Trojan defense to set up Santiago Marengo for the first goal of the match in the 27th minute. Just before halftime in the 44th minute, the Sharks earned a penalty kick and were able to execute the opportunity to take a 2-0 lead into intermission.

Nova Southeastern continued to dominate possession as they outshot Anderson 17 to three, including 11-0 in the first half. On corner kicks, the Sharks held an 11-1 advantage. In 84 minutes of action, Uber totaled seven saves.

The Trojans will return to the pitch on Saturday (Sept. 9) as they take on Carson-Newman University to begin South Atlantic Conference play. Game time is set for 7:30 P.M., with video and live stats available at autrojans.com.
