ANDERSON, S.C. - Following a lay-off of nearly three weeks, the Anderson University men's golf team is slated to return to the links for the three-day South Atlantic Conference Championship, beginning on Sunday.
After being hosted in Sevierville, Tenn. for the last two years, this year's tourney will take place at Firethorne Country Club in Marvin, N.C.
The Trojans finished 11th at last year's three-day event, with then-senior Sean Shelton earning a share of 12th place to lead AU. David Wachter wrapped up the 2014 tournament in 54th, with CJ Messana claiming 55th.
Three weeks ago, Anderson finished tied for 12th at Lincoln
Memorial's second annual Tennessee River Rumble Intercollegiate in
Louden, Tenn. Freshmen Alex Merriman slashed 11 strokes from his
opening round and jumped from a share of 60th and finished tied for
35th. Fellow freshman Forrest Fowler went from sharing the 60th
slot into a tie for 44th, alongside Wachter. Sophomore Payton
Whitlock earned a share of 56th, with junior Rob Warren rounding
out the Black and Gold contingent with a two-day 171.
