Men’s Golf Finishes 11th at Cliffs Intercollegiate

TRAVELER'S REST, S.C. - The Anderson University men's golf team trimmed 10 strokes from Monday's opening round but slipped one spot to finish 11th at the Cliffs Intercollegiate, hosted by North Greenville at the par 72, 7055 yard Cliffs at Mountain Park course in Traveler's Rest, S.C.

Faulkner (299-284=583) was tied for third following Monday's first round, but vaulted past Brevard (290-298=588), which led the two-day event by nine shots entering Tuesday's second round, and Queens (299-294=593), which finished third.

UNC Pembroke (301-293=594) remained fourth, while the host Crusaders (303-295=598) stayed steady in the fifth slot. Pfeiffer (306-298=604), Walters State (309-300=609), Malone (318-292=610), Milligan (309-606=615), Shorter (310-309=619) and Anderson (318-308=626) rounded out the field.

Faulkner's Hrafin Gudlaugsson claimed individual medalist honors after carding a two-day 3-under-par 141 to win by one shot over Queens' Evan Ruhling.

Merriman (74-73=147) moved up two spots and claimed a share of ninth, while sophomore Payton Whitlock (82-77=159) jumped three spots to finish 48th. Freshman Forrest Fowler (81-79=160) was one shot further back in 49th, with junior David Wacher (83-79=162) claiming a share of 55th. Senior C.J. Messana (81-83=164) wrapped up the two-day event in 59th.

Next up for the Trojans is a return trip to the Tennessee River Rumble in Louden, Tenn., on March 30-31.
